Films with Music

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the UAE and the Korean Cultural Center are proud to present the 9th annual Korean Film Festival. This year’s festival, themed “Music" will showcase a diverse selection of Korean films that highlight the power of music in storytelling. From films centered around music to those celebrated for their outstanding original soundtracks, the festival promises a rich cinematic experience. In addition, special film music concerts will bring iconic Korean movie soundtracks to life, offering audiences an unforgettable musical journey.

The festival will open with Bong Joon Ho’s critically acclaimed Parasite, the winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. This masterpiece, known for its gripping narrative and striking musical score, sets the tone for a festival that celebrates the seamless fusion of film and music. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the magic of Korean cinema and its remarkable soundscapes!

Ki-taek's family of four is close, but fully unemployed, with a bleak future ahead of them. The son Ki-woo is recommended by his friend, a student at a prestigious university, for a well-paid tutoring job, spawning hopes of a regular income. Carrying the expectations of all his family, Ki-woo heads to the Park family home for an interview. Arriving at the house of Mr. Park, the owner of a global IT firm, Ki-woo meets Yeon-kyo, the beautiful young lady of the house. But following this first meeting between the two families, an unstoppable string of mishaps lies in wait.

In the late 1960s, ‘C’est Si Bon’ is the music bar where every acoustic band’s dream lies, and Korea’s leading folksongs were born. It is where Geun-tae, the naive country boy met the young musical prodigies Hyung-joo and Chang-sik, and formed the band named after it – the C’est Si Bon Trio. As the three young artists bicker over their music, beautiful socialite Ja-young enters the picture and becomes their muse, and a series of moving love songs come from it. Geun-tae’s pure-heartedness wins Ja-young over but when she accepts a once-in-lifetime opportunity for a shot at an acting career, they part ways. After 20 years, the untold story of their love, song, and youth at ‘C’est Si Bon’ is finally brought to light.

Yu-jun is a promising pianist who had been studying abroad. However, he gets a wrist injury and no longer be able to play piano due to the aftereffects. He returns home as an exchange student at the college of music in Korea where his father teaches. Then one day, Yu-jun has a chance meeting with Jung-a while she plays a mysterious piece in an old practice room on campus. They start developing feelings for each other.

Namoo is a twelve-year-old boy who has lost his father and lives with his mom and grandma. His only friends are Junho, who is the same age as he is, and Yeo, his cat. One day in the stationary store, Namoo discovers a mysterious shining marble. Namoo discovers the marble on a shelf in a lighthouse. The instant a beautiful light shines through the marble, the lighthouse is suddenly transformed into a world of fantasy.

The soundtracks were composed by LEE Byung-woo and performed by YOU Hee-yeol and SUNG Si-kyung.

JAURIM, The Wonderland

South Korea's top band Jaurim is celebrating their 25th debut anniversary by preparing a special album featuring a chorus made of 117 fans along with a concert. From the universe the band has built up since their debut in 1997 to personal anecdotes and heartfelt stories about the youthful spirit that makes Jaurim's music stand out from the rest. The film shows a side of Jaurim that has never been revealed before.

Dog days

Min-sang , a single man with a neat personality, faces daily headaches because of Jin-young, a veterinarian who has turned his building into a watering hole of sort for stray dogs.


One day, while having a heated argument with Jin-young, Min-sang encounters a feisty old lady at the animal hospital - none other than the world-famous architect Min-seo. In desperate need of Min-seo's help with a resort proposal, he decides to win over Jin-young to make a good impression on Min-seo.

A Tale Of Two Sisters

Two sisters, Su-mi and Su-yeon come back home after recovering their health. Eun-joo, the stepmother, welcomes them, but Su-mi, the elder sister, intentionally avoids her and Su-yeon, the younger sister, shows a smack of fear for her stepmother. On their first night, Su-yeon sneaks in Su-mi’s room confessing there is someone in her room and Su-mi sees a ghost of her
late mother in the early morning. A beautiful horror film renowned for its stunning soundtrack by the legendary artist LEE Byung-woo.

The Host

Gang-du is a dim-witted man working at his father’s tiny snack bar near the Han River. One day, Gang-du’s one and only daughter Hyun-seo comes back from school. They watch her aunt Nam-joo’s archery tournament on TV. Meanwhile, outside of the snack bar, people are fascinated by an unidentified object hanging onto a bridge. In an instant, the object reveals itself as a terrifying creature turning the riverbank into a gruesome sea of blood… Amid the chaos, Hyun-seo is helplessly snatched up by the creature right before Gang-du’s eyes. Gang-du and his family are thrust into a battle with the monster to rescue their beloved Hyun-seo. This film is also renowned for its quirky soundtrack, including 'In Praise of the Han River' by the legendary artist LEE Byung-woo.

K-Movie OST Live Concert

Choi Yeowan Group is a Korean crossover ensemble led by jeongga (traditional Korean vocal music) artist Choi Yeowan. The group brings together five musicians from both traditional and contemporary music scenes, offering a fresh reinterpretation of Korean film music. Their performances blend iconic soundtrack melodies with the unique aesthetics of traditional Korean music.


The ensemble will present reimagined soundtracks from beloved Korean cinema classics such as Parasite, My Sassy Girl, 200 Pounds Beauty, and The Host, infusing them with traditional Korean instruments and vocal styles.
